Celebrating 30 Years of JOTA at the Boree Regatta!
This year marks a very special milestone for the St George Amateur Radio Society (SGARS) — we’re celebrating 30 years of setting up and running a Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) radio station at the Endeavour Boree Regatta! It all began back in 1995, when John Gibling (VK2EKG) set up the very first JOTA station at the Boree Regatta. Soon after, other SGARS members joined in — and we’ve been part of the fun ever since!
In October 2025, SGARS members will once again be at the Boree Regatta in Kurnell, Sydney NSW, operating an amateur radio station under the club call sign VK2LE.
The Boree Regatta itself is a fantastic weekend of water and land activities for Girl Guides and Scouts from southern Sydney. This year is extra special — the Boree is celebrating its 60th anniversary, with the very first event held way back in 1965! We’re expecting around 500 Girl Guides and Scouts to take part in this year’s JOTA activities, which could make VK2LE one of the largest JOTA radio stations in Australia!
Our team will be on air and looking to make contact with other JOTA stations over the weekend — Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October 2025.
We’ll be operating on:
- HF (mostly 40m band)
- 2m FM repeaters around the Sydney area
- VK DMR Talk Groups TG30–TG39
- DMR Brandmeister
- EchoLink
