Whether you're experienced in contesting, portable operation, antennas, digital modes or simply enjoy introducing newcomers to amateur radio, we'd love your assistance.

When is Jamboree On The Air at the Boree?

JOTA at The Boree Regatta operation is over the weekend, commencing midday Friday 16th, all day Saturday 17th and all day Sunday 18th October 2026. Your assistance for a few hours, a day or two or the full period, would be greatly appreciated.

• Friday afternoon - Setup of the JOTA activity area - from midday Friday - significant amount of work to be undertaken prior to arrival of youth members from about 3.00 pm.
• Saturday - JOTA Activities - all day Saturday, commencing at 10.30 am, concluding at 6.00 pm.
• Saturday evening - JOTA On Air activity - 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
• Sunday morning - JOTA Activities - from 9.00 am, concluding at midday.
• Sunday afternoon - Pack up - actual times for commencement and access to be determined.

What can I do to assist? Volunteers may assist with:

• Setup and pack up of the JOTA amateur radio station, including tents, power supply, antennas, lighting, radio equipment, signage etc.
• Operation of the JOTA radio station, including liaison with leaders, explaining how we use amateur radio to talk to other JOTA stations, making contact with other JOTA station, identification, and recording all contact details.
• Leading the Fox Hunt activity, including explaining the operation of the equipment, liaise with leaders and facilitate youth members using the equipment.
• Liaison with both leaders as groups arrive at the JOTA activity centre, and JOTA Team leader, direct groups to the nominated activity area, and provide JOTA badges to the leaders on completion of the activity.
• JOTA site safety supervision, rostering and responding to enquiries.

Requirements

• Licensed Amateur Radio Operator (all qualification levels welcome)
• Friendly attitude
• Enjoy working with young people
• Available for part or all of the weekend
• Current Working With Children Check (not required setup and pack up only) 

As we all appreciate, volunteering to work with young guides and scouts at an event such as the Boree Regatta, is a great privilege and comes with associated responsibility for the safety and well-being of everyone.

It is requirement that all adults (18 years or older), including volunteers, parents and service providers, must have a current NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC). As a volunteer, there is no cost to obtain a WWCC.

JOTA volunteers are also required to apply to Scouts NSW (as the lead organisation at the Boree Regatta), to become an adult helper. Once completed, you will receive a member number, which allows you to register to attend the Boree Regatta. There is no cost associated with becoming an adult helper.
