The intention of The St George Amateur Radio Society (SGARS) 80 metre Contest is for amateur radio operators to prepare for the annual Remembrance Day Contest following in August, so this contest is held on the last Saturday evening in July.

The SGARS 80m Trophy Contest is open to all operators using analogue and digital voice modes, CW morse code and other digital modes such as RTTY, SSTV etc. In 2025, There is a change to the contest rules, allowing the use of remote SDR receiver, which could assist contestants who are located in a high HF noise area.

Don't currently have any HF radio equipment or not able to operate on the 80 metre band from your location, you can still participate in this contest, as a listener. By can be accessing a remote HF Software Defined Receiver (SDR) over the internet, you can monitor the 80 metre band, and listen for stations participating in the contest. Record the station's details, call sign, frequency, time and mode of operation, and submit a log as a Short Wave Listener (SWL).

The contest commences at 6.00 pm local time in one hour time slots until midnight. Extra points can be earned in the last hour and by making contact with the SGARS club station VK2LE. Participate for as long short time as you like. No minimum commitment.
