International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend - ILLW is an annual 48 hour amateur radio event held on the third full weekend in August where Radio groups operate from Lighthouses around the world with the aim to communicate with as many other Lighthouse based radio operator groups over the duration of one weekend.
The St George Amateur Radio Society is planning to operate the club radio station VK2LE, at the Cape Baily Lighthouse, located in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park, near Cape Solander. The lighthouse can be reached along a walking track, which takes about 30 minutes from the end of Potter Point Vehicle Trail, off Sir Joseph Banks Drive.
The ILLW event commences at 00.01 UTC or 10.01 am local Sydney Time. The plan would be to meet up at 10.00 am on Saturday morning, in the car park at the end of Potter Point Trail. All equipment, radios, batteries, antennas, cables etc. will need to be carried to the light house. At the light house, there is no infrastructure on site, so any antennas would need to be self supporting. The light house cannot be used to support antennas. Also there is no fresh water, shade, shelter, toilet facilities or garbage bins at the light house or along the walking track. Everything must be removed and carried back to the car park, at about 4.00 pm.
