Obtaining an amateur radio licence is easy with the Foundation entry level accreditation. No age limit and no morse code to learn.

"The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA)'s deed (contract) for the provision of amateur radio assessments and selected licencing functions is scheduled to end on 4th February 2019.  In late 2018 the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) sought tenders to the provision of these and other associated services. As such, at this point in time, SGARS and it's assessors are not able to offer licence assessment services on behalf of the WIA and the ACMA beyond 4th February 2019.

The St George Amateur Radio Society (SGARS) and its assessors look forward to an announcement from the ACMA regarding the contractual position moving forward beyond 4th February 2019 and hope that it best reflects to interests of the hobby and its current and future participants. SGARS and its assessors look forward to resuming provision of services in the near future once the necessary arrangements are in place.

In the meantime, we encourage anyone who is looking to either upgrade their existing licence or looking to obtain their licence to continue to 'express their interest' via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
